Colour analysis is everywhere on social media at the moment, and as we’re both growing our businesses, we felt it was really important to understand it properly so we could feel confident in what we were offering our clients. We are sisters and often work together as a hair and makeup team, and the biggest benefit for us has been the ability to create a much more cohesive overall look for our brides. From the initial consultation through to the final look on their wedding day, the process now feels far more seamless and harmonious. One area we previously struggled with was having the vocabulary to clearly explain why we were making certain colour choices in makeup and hair, particularly when a client arrived with a photo brief that we instinctively knew would not suit them. This session was incredibly helpful in learning how to professionally give an opinion that is backed up with clear reasoning and examples, such as explaining why cool toned features suit cool palettes or how contrast levels play a role, for example high contrast looks not sitting well on low contrast individuals. It will hugely benefit both of us in our bridal trials, allowing us to tailor every decision, from colour to shape, to each client’s individual needs. The guidance on shapes was particularly valuable not just for makeup application but also for hair styling. Understanding how winter palettes often suit more structured looks while spring palettes tend to work best with softer shapes has already influenced how we approach our work.
